AS A Rawcliffe resident and previous visitor to Galtres Festival, I am delighted to think it could reappear on my own doorstep this year.
However, I am dismayed to have come across a campaign of poorly informed scaremongering against the possibility of staging this year’s festival in Rawcliffe.
Those who object probably haven’t been to Galtres and are comparing it quite wrongly with over-large festivals such as Glastonbury and Leeds.
Being over 60, with a bus pass and grandchildren, you might think I would be anti-festival; far from it. I am a big fan of what the Galtres Festival sets out to achieve.
Galtres is part of a growing movement for small, well-organised, family-based festivals with a brilliant mix of guest and local performers, musicians and artists.
Children are encouraged to attend. Galtres itself has attracted praise in the media for its ethos and approach.
The organisers are highly visible and keen to maintain the festival’s reputation for good management, local involvement and quality programme, including promotion and support of local artists, performers and suppliers.
