SO, City of York Council is considering charging a second time for green bin collections. Don’t they know that it is illegal to charge twice for the same service?
We already pay for green bin collections through our high council tax bills. Now the council is considering charging us an extra 1.9 per cent rate rise when other councils are freezing theirs for a second or third time.
In theory, we are going to be charged for the third time. Imagine what we would say if we went to a shop or a supermarket and we were charged twice, or even three times, for the same item. What happens to the extra money we save through all the extra work we are doing recycling the waste? Our council tax bill should be reduced, not increased, or at the very least frozen. Where are we supposed to get this extra money from?
