Updated 9.50pm
A POWER cut has affected electricity supplies to 26,000 homes across York tonight.
The blackout, which happened just before 7.25pm, affected homes and businesses in the YO1, YO23 and YO24 postcodes, including Acomb, Holgate, Dringhouses, Woodthorpe and Bishophill, as well as the city-centre.
A spokesman for Northern Powergrid said power supplies were restored to all the affected properties by just before 7.50pm. The fault occurred on the National Grid network, although the exact cause is not yet known.
Earlier reports suggested the number of homes affected was about 860, although this was based on fluctuating numbers for different postcode areas on Northern Powergrid's website as the fault was dealt with.
The company has now confirmed the power cut impacted on 26,000 homes.
