VALENTINE’S Day will be extra special for a York couple who are also celebrating 60 years of marriage today.
June and Ernie Addinall first met at the city’s Rowntree’s dance hall and picked the most romantic day of the year, February 14, to tie the knot in 1953 at Clifton Parish Church.
They will be marking their diamond wedding anniversary with a celebration at their York home alongside their family.
The couple have three children – Michael, Linda and Louise – and eight grandchildren, whom they say they are “extremely proud of”.
During his working life, Ernie worked at Northern Motor Utilities in Foss Islands Road for 21 years before being made redundant, then spent 20 years at York Carriageworks and eight years at the University of York’s Derwent College.
June worked at a wool shop in the city before leaving work to bring up their family.
As well as being a Freeman of the City of York, Ernie is a keen snooker player and fisherman, while June enjoys reading, crosswords and playing Scrabble.
