FIVE decades of the University of York are being celebrated with two art exhibitions in the city.
The two anniversary exhibitions explore the 50 years of history since the university was founded in 1963 focusing on the personalities and milestones in itss first half-century and its close links with the city.
An exhibition at the university’s city centre buildings at King’s Manor captures the relationship it has with the city, highlighting the work of architect Sir Bernard Fielden, and showcases collaborations between departments in King’s Manor and York’s major heritage and cultural organisations.
In the Ron Cooke Hub exhibition space at the Heslington East campus, a pictoral timeline showcases the history of the University and the landmark achievements over the following years to the present day and includes photos from the Queen’s visit to campus in 1965.
The timeline is open to the public from today. To view the King’s Manor art contact the porter’s lodge in advance on 01904 323995.
