CHILDREN at Wigginton Primary School became archaeologists, artists and story tellers for the day as part of their history lessons about York’s Viking life.
The idea was to create a hands-on experience, and both pupils and staff were dressed up for the day’s activities, with many as Vikings.
Teacher Kate Dobson said: “The children loved it. Days like this are really good for enriching their lessons and helping them learn. They were making model longhouses, weaving paper, writing stories and even investigating human waste from the Viking period to find out what they ate.
“This is the first time we’ve done a Viking day in years. It went down really well. We try to incorporate an activity day once a term, one for each history topic we do. Next time will potentially have a medieval theme, as we’ll be studying knights and castles.’
