A North Yorkshire animal charity is gearing up to cope with an expected spring influx of orphaned wildlife babies.
Annette Pyrah, manager of Selby Wildlife Rehabilitation said: “We are launching our spring orphan appeal to raise funds for this exceptionally busy time.
“Our first event is a tombola at Barlby High School on Saturday, February 23.
“We need to buy more incubators and accommodation in which to house these babies.
“Sometimes they land on our doorstep just a few hours old and need specialist care and round-the-clock attention”.
Annette thanked two pubs in the York area who are supporting the Rescue Centre.
She said: “As well as local companies supporting us, we have been contacted by the Plough Inn at Fulford and the Golden Ball at Bishophill who have also offered to help our appeal.”
The centre opened its doors on a full-time basis only last summer, but has already helped hundreds of sick, injured and orphaned wild animals.
To support the appeal, visit the charity’s website at selbywildlife.co.uk, select much-needed items from their Amazon wish list, or send a cheque to Selby Wildlife, Low Mill, York Road, Selby, YO8 5JP.
