YORK players Zoe Eagles and Adam Liddell helped England Under-25s to triumph in both the ladies and men’s British Isles bowls series, with both players involved in rinks which had boasted 100 per cent records.
The ladies series, which was played at Bromsgrove Indoor Bowls Club, saw Eagles playing lead in Lorraine Kuhler’s rink.
They got off to a good start, leading 15-4 after nine ends before beating Wales 21-12.
An unchanged team then collected singles on the last two ends to edge Scotland 16-14.
Overall the Scotland game was the decider and saw England come back from a five-shot deficit to win the series by four shots.
The men’s series was hosted by Newport IBC and also included Ireland, whom England toppled.
Liddell played lead in Jamie Walker’s rink, whose 24-13 win was confirmed despite dropping four shots on the last two ends.
The second game was against Scotland, and again the England players proved on top form with Liddell among the highest winning rink with a 23-10 margin of victory.
England went into their game against Wales with such a big shots difference they could afford to lose and still win the Championship but they scraped home 71-70 to keep their maximjum record intact.
Liddell’s team were level at 15-15 with four ends to go but stepped up a gear to triumph 20-15.
