York Indoor Bowls Club ‘B’ team carded their fourth successive win after beating Leeds in the Yorkshire Over-55s League second division.

The 89-65 triumph reeled in 14 out of the 18 points at stake for York to move into third place.

However, they are too far behind to threaten the promotion hopefuls.

The away legs were played first and saw an impressive victory from Bob Blackburn’s team, who beat Dave Harrison’s side 18-14.

They countered from 4-0 down to take the lead for the first time on the sixth end, the 6-4 margin gallantly held on to.

Ron Munro’s team looked to be on the end of a big defeat when they trailed 23-5 with six ends to play. But they rallied, winning the remaining ends to lose 23-14.

With only a five-shot deficit to make up, the home rinks were optimistic but it started badly with Ken Robinson’s side trailing 14-9 and Alan Clapham’s only having a 10-7 lead.

But then the game moved towards the home side as Clapham’s team won seven out of eight ends to underpin an eventual 31-10 victory.

Robinson’s side won five on the trot to go in front 24-14 on their way to a 26-18 win.

The final game for York ‘B’ is against champions-elect New Earswick next month.

York ‘A’, meanwhile, will look for a big points victory to enhance their chances of the first division title when they play Harrogate, with the away leg played at 12.30pm today, and the home leg, starting at noon tomorrow.
