SIXTY years of teaching at a York school have been celebrated with the unveiling of a colourful new mosaic.
Eight-year-old Bradley Sleightholme won a competition to design a mosaic to celebrate 60 years of Westfield School in Acomb.
The art work has been installed in front of the school building and was officially unveiled by Bradley along with head teacher Tracey Ralph, parents and school governors.
Teacher Claire Wheeler said: “This year and last year’s school councils had the job of judging and making sure the final designs were appropriate and Bradley’s design, which includes the school emblem of an owl, was the winner. It looks absolutely fantastic. It’s bright as can be - you can’t miss it.”
The mosaic is only one of a number of celebrations the school has planned to mark its special anniversary, including a school disco, a photo of the whole school and goody bags for the pupils.
