COUNCIL chiefs in North Yorkshire are set to finalise a contract with the firm which will operate a controversial £1.4 billion waste incinerator.
North Yorkshire County Council is to press ahead with the deal with AmeyCespa to run the Allerton Waste Recovery Park between York and Knaresborough after a “decision notice” was issued for the development yesterday.
The authority granted planning permission last October and the Government recently confirmed it would not call in the scheme for a public inquiry.
County councillors will be asked to study the contract and, if they confirm it is affordable, work on the waste treatment facility will start. The contract process could take several months, with the aim being for the incinerator to be operational from mid-2016.
However, the plant’s opponents have said they are taking legal advice about a potential judicial review of the county council’s decision to approve the development.
