HOW I enjoyed residents’ weekend. As a life-long resident of such a fine city, it’s a distinct pleasure to be a tourist for a weekend.
My enjoyment was marred, however, by the actions of a young woman at Clifford’s Tower. Seemingly a misprint in the booklet failed to mention a minimal charge of £1 for residents. That’s quite acceptable.
However, this woman was aggressive, abusive and threatening toward the staff over this. It gave a terrible impression to the people queuing behind, as well as holding us all up.
As far as I’m concerned the staff were pleasant, apologetic and helpful and were working hard, no doubt for no extra pay.
This young woman should be ashamed of her actions. I used to run a shop in York and if a customer had behaved like that to me or my staff, I’d have banned them permanently.
We must remember that residents’ weekend is a perk and not a right. Other cities don’t do this.
