YORK Acorn ARLC Under-16s hit back from 10-4 down at half-time to beat hosts Allerton Bywater 32-10 in the Yorkshire Combination Youth League division one.
The Blue and Golds, still smarting from their agonising last-minute defeat by local rivals New Earswick the previous week, travelled to Allerton Bywater aiming to complete a home and away double.
Allerton took the lead on 24 minutes, but a superb pass from Jake Calam out wide to Adam Penistone put Acorn back in the game.
Allerton took advantage of some poor defending to take a 10-4 lead at the break.
However, within two minutes of the restart, Billy Nicholson forced his way over for a converted try.
Acorn took the lead with Reece Rushworth’s 40th minute try, converted by Jake Calam.
On 50 minutes, Reece Arthur crashed over under the posts and, two minutes later, Robbie Langstaff was able to find a gap in the defence out wide and made it to the try line.
With only a minute left on the clock, Calam’s slick footwork beat a tired defence and he slipped through to run 80 yards.
