WIGGINTON Grasshoppers are still on course for a terrific treble after moving nine points clear at the top of the York FA Under-19s Football League.
The table-topping Grasshoppers were 5-1 winners at home to sixth-placed Copmanthorpe with goals from Pat Evans (2), Jamie Wilstrop, Dan Welborn and Harry McMillan. Jonah Beecher replied with Copmanthorpe’s consolation.
The table-toppers’ win extended their lead over rivals Rawcliffe, who have three games in hand after their fixture against third-placed Dringhouses was postponed.
Wiggy are also chasing silverware in the York FA U19s Cup.
They will host Dringhouses in the semi-finals on Sunday, March 3, while Rawcliffe face a home last-four meeting with Strensall on the same day.
The third string to Grasshoppers’ bow is the North Riding County FA Under-18s Cup.
The club are through to the semi-finals of the competition after beating Yarm Town 9-2 in round two and then North Ormesby 5-1 in the quarter-finals.
Their opponents are not yet known, but the other semi-finalists are Redcar Town, Stokesley Sports Club and Marske United.
Basement side Poppleton picked up their first win of the season, beating hosts Elvington Harriers 3-0.
The victory ended Poppleton’s 12-match losing streak and also took their goal tally into double figures after strikes from Tom Paulin (2) and Tom Zbadynski.
They go in search of a second win at Wistow tomorrow.
Fulford moved up to fourth place in the table with a 4-2 victory at third from bottom Strensall.
Haxby Town missed the chance to close the gap on the top three when their scheduled fixture at Wistow was postponed.
