DERBY rivals Leeds knocked York Schoolboys Under-11s out of the Yorkshire Cup.
Hosts Leeds went through 1-0 after a close-fought tie.
York started well and went agonisingly close to opening the scoring on three occasions in the first half, with Joe Crosby and Oliver Smith narrowly missing the target.
Just before half-time York were denied what seemed a clear-cut penalty.
However, at 0-0 at the interval, it seemed it was just a matter of time before York claimed the first goal.
The break helped to get Leeds up and running and they stunned York when they scored with their first real chance.
The final 20 minutes of the game became a frantic affair, with York throwing everything at Leeds.
However, it was to no avail and, if anything, Leeds could have killed off the encounter as they spurned three other good chances.
Charlie King was named York’s man of the match, but Charlie Ward also put in a hard-working shift.
York return to Leeds today in a league encounter, hoping to turn their chances into goals.
