YORK Schoolboys Under-14s conceded a late equaliser for the second week running, letting slip a 1-0 lead to draw 1-1 at home to Spen Valley, writes Oscar Pearson.
York dominated a goalless first half, but failed to create any clear-cut chances as the visitors set out to keep the game tight and frustrate their hosts.
Jacob Smith and man of the match Aron Clarke were again immaculate at the heart of York’s defence and distributed the ball well to keep their side on the front foot.
York deservedly broke the Spen Valley defence in the opening minutes of the second half as Cameron Herd’s deep cross from the left wing was volleyed into the net by George Brown.
The home side continued to dictate with Sam Drake and Louis Cade retaining possession well in the centre of the pitch.
As the game opened up, York created a number of chances, but the Spen ’keeper twice thwarted Alex Wilson when clear through on goal.
However, déjà-vu struck with seven minutes remaining as the visitors prodded home a floated corner-kick and grabbed an unlikely draw.
