YOUNGSTERS at primary schools in York will get the chance to grow their own fruit thanks to a new scheme.
Train operator, First TransPennine Express has donated £1,950 to York Edible Schools to fund a fruit tracking project which is in support of another project run by Edible York called The York Orchard. Both projects aim to plant as many fruit and other kinds of tree as possible around the city.
The programme will see ten schools in York benefiting from an outdoor learning programme focused on growing fruits and the wildlife trees support.
Each school will be given five fruit trees to plant in their grounds, in addition to a training day, where two teachers from each school will be provided with a range of teaching and learning activities to ensure the pupils gain as much as possible from the programme.
