York City Knights rugby league player Kriss Brining met children from Sand Hutton Primary School to launch a new programme to teach them about fitness and heart health.
The programme is run by The York City Knights Foundation funded by a £4,600 Healthy Heart Grant from Yorkshire-based charity Heart Research UK and backed by national take-away sandwich chain Subway.
The Run For A Healthy Heart programme will aim to improve the heart health of pupils in ten local primary schools, aged between seven and 11, through a series of classroom activities and physical activity sessions. The sessions with the Knights players and coaches helps the children learn how to take care of their hearts through physical activity, eating healthy and avoiding cigarettes.
