THE fate of a York school may be known by the end of this month.
Recommendations for the future of Derwent School, Tang Hall, will be made to city education chief Janet Looker following a consultation with parents, which ended last Friday.
City of York Council wants to close the 100-pupil Derwent School and merge it with Osbaldwick Primary School on the two existing school sites.
A council spokesman said: “Following two well-attended public meetings and an open day where parents had the chance to see both schools, we are now drawing together the feedback the council has received.
“A paper will be submitted to the cabinet member for education, Coun Janet Looker, before the end of the month which will recommend a proposed way forward.”
The Press previously reported that the decision by the head teacher at Derwent, Carole Torode, to take early retirement last Christmas had sparked a review into the future of the school, which has the most surplus places of any primary school in the city.
When Mrs Torode left, the head at Osbaldwick, Lesley Barringer, became the executive head for both schools.
Now the consultation has ended, decisions will be taken in the spring in time for any changes to be in place by September.
