SPOT tests are being carried out on beef bought by North Yorkshire council chiefs to be served at the county’s schools in the wake of the horsemeat controversy.
North Yorkshire County Council said all meat supplied for its in-house food service was purchased from Harrogate firm Gilmoors and a recent audit had shown everything was “in good order”.
The authority is awaiting the results of tests on beef supplied to schools by Gilmoors, as well as processed meat products bought on an ad-hoc basis by several schools.
