SHOP workers in York have been doing their bit for Comic Relief by modelling T-shirts which have been created specially for the cause.
Staff at York TK Maxx have been proudly wearing the tops, designed by Stella McCartney, which feature well-known faces such as Tommy Cooper, Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles and Kate Moss, and which are being sold in the store.
Profits from the sale of each T-shirt – one of a number of products being sold by the high street chain – is spent by Comic Relief to help people leading incredibly tough lives across Africa and in the UK.
The 2013 T-shirts have been manufactured in Africa with 100 per cent of the cotton sourced from Fairtrade certified, organic cotton co-operatives in Mali.
Jess Riley, the York store’s charity champion, said: “The shirts are selling really well.”
She said they were also holding a quiz night in aid of Comic Relief in the Bay Horse Pub, Marygate, from 7.30pm tonight which has attracted support from local businesses which have donated raffle prizes.
The event costs £5 with all the money going to the charity.
