AN ELDERLY woman is said to have been left “very frightened” following an attempted distraction burglary in York.
It is believed a man had tried to trick his way into her house by knocking on the front door and then going to the rear of the home in Almsford Road while she was distracted.
Nothing was stolen, but it left the woman very frightened, police said.
A 40-year-old man was arrested in Millfield Lane, Nether Poppleton, following the incident at about 8.45pm February 15, but was released without charge.
Police dogs were used as part of the search, police said.
Patrols by the Safer Neighbourhood Team will continue in the area to provide a reassuring presence.
Residents have been asked to phone police on 101 if they witnessed any suspicious activity in the area.
