WORK will begin on Monday on a £1.8 million scheme to improve safety at a junction on the A19 south of York.
A three-lane roundabout will be created to make the Barlby and Osgodby junction of the A19 and the A63 safer.
The junction is currently a staggered crossroad and is a notorious accident black spot with a hazardous right hand turn.
On the eastern side, it turns into the A63 to Howden and ultimately Hull. On the western side, the road links into the centre of the village of Barlby. This stretch of the A19 carries more than 33,000 vehicles a day. Construction of the roundabout is set to last 22 weeks. During ten weeks of that time, from March 11, it will be fully closed.
