DRINKERS could soon enjoy wheel ale with their real ale after a pub landlord unveiled plans to add a vintage car and bike museum.
Vito Logozzi, who runs The Goodmanham Arms in East Yorkshire with his wife, Abbie, wants to create an extension to house his growing collection of vintage bikes, cars and motoring memorabilia.
Many of the items already adorn the pub, just north of Market Weighton, and now Vito wants to showcase the rest of his collection –appealing to bikers as well as the hikers from the nearby Yorkshire Wolds.
Mr and Mrs Logozzi took over the Goodmanham Arms in 2010 when it was threatened with closure, and its fortunes have since improved.
They added a microbrewery last summer and won the 2012 Village Pub Of The Year award from the Hull and East Yorkshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale.
Vito said: “I want to create a little 1920s-style garage with the cars and bikes in – then we will have a brewery, a country pub and a museum as well.”
He said the museum would be partly for himself and partly for customers, and said he hoped it may also attract fellow enthusiasts and mechanics to help with repairs.
“It is my hobby but it could draw people in,” he said. “It might become an attraction. People may decide to come for a day out and to look at the museum.
“Nowadays, the pub industry is not in the best state and the Government is creating problems with rising duty while people have less and less to spend.
“So, sometimes you have to do things to be different and to stay on top all the time.”
A planning application for the proposed extension has been submitted to East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
