YORK Schoolboys Under-12s returned to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 victory at Leeds in the Junior Star League.

York dominated the first half and created good chances.

Dan Moll went close with a shot and Declan Bonefeld was denied by the goalkeeper.

York continued pressing and were awarded with a fantastic goal, a leftwing cross was met by Moll who shot into the bottom corner.

Leeds fought back, their winger delivering a vicious cross that forced York ’keeper Alex Backhouse to make a sound save.

York continued their strong performance in the second half and created a few half-chances, but struggled to break down a strong Leeds defence.

York’s persistence paid off and they got the second goal they deserved.

A corner from Cain Rogerson caused the Leeds defence problems, who put the ball into their own net.

For York, man-of-the-match Bonefeld showed great attacking play and the central defence pairing of Jamie O’Connell and Cai Gallimore provided a strong rearguard.

York travel to Scarborough this weekend for another league game looking to keep their 100 per cent record intact.

Three points eluded York U11s, but they showed tremendous spirit against Leeds to earn a point in a hard-fought 2-2 draw.

York started very brightly and early pressure created chances but Leeds defended solidly against some welldelivered corners from Dan Allinson and probing runs by strikers Joe Crosby and Oliver Smith.

Leeds looked dangerous from setpieces and, when York gave away a free-kick just before half-time, danger loomed.

Aaron Burn saved the initial strike but couldn’t stop the Leeds striker following up and making it 1-0.

Early in the second half a Leeds raider pounced on to a loose pass and weaved past the otherwise outstanding James Hanson to calmly put Leeds 2-0 up.

York responded when substitute Robbie Simpson won the ball and fed in Crosby who scored to reduce the deficit with only eight minutes left.

York won a free-kick at the death and from the expertly delivered setpiece, man-of-the-match Lucas Wilson, volleyed home.

Elsewhere, the U13s’ league campaign resumed with a 2-1 away defeat at Leeds.

The early stages were dominated by the home side who had chances which kept the York defence, especially full-backs Kemp and Lawrence, at full stretch.

York began to settle and gain control through the midfield pair of Will Mouncher and Owen Marshall.

Despite York’s pressure, it was Leeds who took the lead when York failed to clear.

The goal drew an immediate response from York. Rogerson harassed a defender which allowed Davison to slot home.

The second half began with York being denied an equaliser. Kemp fouind the net, but the referee had blown for a handball by a York forward earlier in the move.

The half was developing into a contrast of styles – York’s passing and movement causing the home side problems, compared to the swift counter-attacking ploy adopted by Leeds.

It was through this fashion that Leeds scored the decisive strike.

Leeds took the ball from York and played a quick through ball which caught the visitors out and resulted in the winner being scored.
