Young people have a chance to stand for a seat in the UK Youth Parliament.

In North Yorkshire, young people aged 11 to 17 are encouraged to apply to represent the county.

Liam Cutler, vice-chair of the North Yorkshire Youth Council and Richmond Youth Council member, is standing down from the Youth Parliament after two years. He said: “It is hard work, but really worth it and a fantastic experience”.

The county’s young people can also apply to sit on the House of Commons Youth Select Committee to write a report about the school curriculum.

Coun Arthur Barker, North Yorkshire’s executive member for schools, said the positions offered young people the chance to “improve the communities they live in and to influence national policy”.

The deadline for nominations is March 1. The form can be found at nyyc.co.uk/uk-youth-parliament-2/

The deadline for select comittee applications is March 11.
