A MAN has been arrested and £170,000 seized as part of a police investigation centred on a York bookmakers.
The money was found in a safe at a Betfred shop, on the corner of Bootham and Gillygate, and was unaccounted for, say police.
A 47-year-old York man has been arrested and bailed.
At Northallerton Magistrates Court yesterday, a four-month order was passed giving North Yorkshire Police permission to seize the cash under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
North Yorkshire Police have stressed that it is not normal practice for such an amount of cash to be kept on bookmakers’ premises.
