THIS large metal frame is the shell of a new building going up at a York primary school that is expanding its horizons.

The earth movers have begun work at Knavesmire School in Trafalgar Street, South Bank, which wants to increase the number of pupils it can accommodate from 260 to 420 over the next three years.

To help the school achieve its goal City of York Council gave the green light last year to a £2.2 million project to provide four extra classrooms, a new hall and toilets and an improved reception area.

The new main hall is being built within the school’s south wing, where an extension will allow for the four additional classrooms, while the scheme will also see new toilets, cloakrooms, a reception area and a head teacher’s office created.

Work was progressing on the building over the half-term break.
