I DREAD the day when the dormant traffic lights at Heworth Green and Eboracum Way are finally operational (The Press, February 18).
When they were installed three years ago and allowed to function for a week or so, they caused chaos.
At busy times traffic was quickly backed up right through Monkgate roundabout with a knock-on effect to the existing nightmare at the Lowther Street junction with Huntington Road.
There was also a back-up of traffic in the other direction to the pedestrian crossing at Mill Lane.
And this is before all the proposed development on the link road was in place.
It would be better to do away with the lights altogether and oblige all traffic coming out of Eboracum Way to turn left and traverse Monkgate roundabout, from where vehicles can easily continue in any direction.
