THE boss of York Hospital will be among high-profile speakers to address the final meeting of the city’s shadow health and wellbeing board before it comes into full existence this spring.

The powerful group of health professionals, volunteer workers and council members are expected to receive an udpate from Patrick Crowley, head of York Teaching Hospital Foundation NHS Foundation Trust, on what the health service can learn from the recent report into poor levels of care at the Mid-Staffordshire Trust.

Wednesday’s meeting in the Guildhall will also hear from North Yorkshire’s temporary chief constable Tim Madgwick, who will present his force’s draft police and crime plan for 2013-17.

The Health and Wellbeing Board will be responsible for promoting public health in York, when it comes into existence in April.

Chairwoman Coun Tracey Simpson-Laing said: “From April we won’t be in shadow form any more and we will be working with all our partners including the clinical commissioning group and Leeds and York Partnership mental health trust.

“These are difficult times obviously with cuts for all organisations.”

In December and January, the board consulted health workers and volunteers throughout York, and the findings will presented on Wednesday in a draft strategy which will shape the policies the new organisations.

According to the report, those questioned wanted to see more emphasis on the link between housing and health in York, with more housing options for the elderly and those with mental health problems.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting, which takes place at 4.30pm.
