DINERS in York are being encouraged to dig out their old shoes to help a charity that supports young people with special needs.

The Living Room will be accepting all types and condition of shoes, whether they are towering stilettos that have never seen the light of day, or much-loved loafers on their last legs.

Ewan Thompson, general manager at The Living Room, said: “With the average woman owning 34 pairs of shoes, we hope this initiative will be especially popular with our female customers.

“It’s a great chance for all of us to de-clutter, it prevents shoes going to landfill, and it’s all for a good cause.”

Anne Stamp, service manager with Snappy, said: “We’re delighted that The Living Room is supporting us in this way, and all the money raised will be used to provide social and recreational opportunities for children and young people with special needs. We are currently supporting 273 families in York.”
