FIFTH-PLACED City of York ladies I battled their way to a superb 0-0 draw at premier division leaders Bowden II in the North Hockey League.
The visitors followed up their draw with fourth-placed Sheffield Hallam I in fine style to maintain their mid-table standing.
Bowdon were quickly on the front foot, but a few missed traps from their forwards broke down their early dominance.
Every move Bowdon made, York were quick to close them down and make it difficult for the hosts.
Bowdon showed their class with their passing moves and attacking pace, but York’s defence stepped up to the challenge.
Goalkeeper Dawn Hopkins turned in an excellent performance to prevent Bowdon taking the lead.
Despite coming under severe pressure, York were able to create opportunities, albeit without testing the Bowdon goalkeeper as they could only muster one penalty corner all match.
Bowdon went close as they desperately searched for a winner late in the game.
Meanwhile, in the Yorkshire League, City of York II were beaten 4-1 at home by Kingston-upon-Hull I.
Second-placed City of York III were without a game in division three.
Promotion-chasing City of York IV were 3-1 winners over visitors Harrogate V in division five.
City of York V, who had no fixture, dropped to second in division six Yorkshire.
