A FORMER world darts champion took on the best of the local league when he turned up at a village pub near York.
Bob Anderson, who was ranked as world number one for three consecutive years in the 1980s, visited the White Horse on the green in Poppleton.
Before enjoying curry as a guest at the pub’s Lumja Lounge Restaurant, Bob took on a challenger from each pub in the Marston Moor League, with the local lads eventually going down 5-7 to the arrows legend.
White Horse owner, Shaun Singleton said: “He was worried. Halfway through he said to me that the standard of playing was phenomenal.
“He said he had to work hard for his money on the night.”
The White Horse uses a “Yorkshire” board, which only features double and no treble scores.
Shaun said: “Bon said it was the first time he had played on a doubles board in 40 years and he really enjoyed it.”
