THE price of a card which allows York residents free entry to the city’s museums is set to rise by £1.
The combined YorkCard and library card currently costs £2 for adults, who can then also gain discounts for cultural and sporting activities, but will expire tomorrow after being first issued two years ago.
City of York Council’s cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, Coun Sonja Crisp, will today be asked to approve increasing the price of the card to £3, although it will remain free for under-18s.
Residents will also be able to renew it annually on an individual basis rather than at a fixed time, and leaflets will be issued explaining the discounts offered by the card.
If the increase is approved, residents will have until the end of June to renew their cards and all income will go into York’s library service.
A council report said the £3 cost of a YorkCard would be recouped four times over by one visit to the Yorkshire and Castle Museums through a combined ticket, and it also offered a number of other discounts.
