I COMPLETELY agree with Matthew Laverack’s version of the traffic lights near the Monkgate roundabout (Letters, February 25).
What were the city planners thinking about in putting lights there? At either end of Heworth Green there are two roundabouts which cope quite well with the traffic from four directions.
While I’m on about traffic lights, there are many places where the traffic flow would go better with a mini-roundabout rather than traffic lights. Any taxi driver will tell you that when lights are not working the flow of traffic is much better.

• PERHAPS they could use the dormant traffic lights at Heworth Green to replace those knocked down between Christmas and New Year near Heworth roundabout.
