York Indoor Bowls Club’s chances of finishing second in the North Eastern League were boosted as they beat Scarborough 109-71.
Their reward was to collect eight of the ten points at stake.
At home, both rinks had convincing wins with Pat Bracken’s leading from the start and only dropping shots on six ends throughout their game, which they won 33-11.
Barbara Dawson’s side got off to a slow start which saw them 10-3 behind after six ends but they came back in style winning all but three of the remaining ends to finish 36-17.
Away, the team led by Jean Williams were 14-8 down after 14 ends before clawing away at the deficit.
They went into the last end 17-16 down before a three sealed a great comeback capped by a 19-17 win.
Irene Paylor’s side were looking comfortable as they led 13-6 after 11 ends before dropping an eight to put them behind.
A single levelled the scores before they dropped a three. But by the 17th end they had edged in front 19-17, only to lose the last four ends and the game 26-19.
New Earswick drew with second-placed Doncaster 68-68.
But they were frustrated only to pick up three points due to having only one winning rink, that of the ever reliable Margaret Moss who had their game won by the 15th end when they led 19-5.
Marjorie Watson’s team were made to pay for a slow start which saw them trailing 15-5 after ten ends, though they rallied to only perish 20-17.
Away, Kath Sykes’ team were in with a chance when they were only 16-15 behind with three ends to play only to lose 21-16.
Peggy Walker’s side were also made to pay for a slow start which saw them 11-2 down after ten ends. They eventually lost 17-13.
York are seven points behind Doncaster, who they play in their next game and have a game in hand.
On brink of crowning glory
York IBC ‘A’-team can clinch the Yorkshire Over-55s League division one title tomorrow when they play Featherstone.
