THE Government is to use £37million of taxpayers’ money to subsidise the installation of charge-up points for electric cars in homes and businesses.
This is to encourage more people to buy battery-powered cars which carry green discounts and lower road tax. Over the past few years, the Government has encouraged motorists to buy low-emission cars which also have a lower road tax.
Recently, the Government realised that because of this it is receiving less money from road tax and, in order to fill the void, it is now considering introducing tolls on certain roads. Why encourage people to use these types of vehicles in order to save the environment and then tax them further for the privilege?
This is similar to York council encouraging people to recycle rubbish to save landfill charges then charging them for the emptying of green bins.
