A MAN suffered stomach and arm wounds in a shooting on the outskirts of York.
Armed police, along with unarmed officers, were called out after the shooting in Murton Lane.
North Yorkshire Police said the man, who is in his 30s and local to the area, suffered pellet wounds to his stomach and arm and was taken to hospital for treatment.
“His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening,” said a police spokesman.
“The man has been released from hospital.”
The shooting happened outside a property at about 7.50pm a week last Wednesday, but police did not release details until yesterday.
The spokesman said: “A police investigation is ongoing into the circumstances which led to the incident and officers would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and either witnessed it or saw any suspicious activity. Police believe this is an isolated incident and the wider community were not at risk.”
He urged anyone with any information which could help officers to phone 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or to visit www.crimestoppers-uk.org
It is the second serious incident in Murton Lane in less than a year.
Residents were shocked last July when a suspected pre-arranged fight between travellers erupted.
Former boxing champion Henry Wharton was injured after being hit by a car. It was understood at the time that he might have been injured after intervening in the fight.
However, he later told The Press he suffered the injuries in a game of football when he was running past a car and caught his leg on a bumper, tripped and fell.
The police spokesman said that incident remained under investigation and six people arrested during those inquiries last year remain on police bail.
