POCKLINGTON RUFC Under- 12s showed true grit and determination but fell 14-0 to Selby in their first match under floodlights.

The youngsters took to the Percy Road ground, the first time they had competed on a full-size pitch, and attacked from the off.

Alex Todd and Will Husband were involved, the latter being tackled close to the line, as both sides exhibited excellent skills.

The tackles were hard from Pock’s Will Ackerely and Reece Dixon, but Selby continued to pressure, made a break and got the first score on the board – a try which the young Swans converted.

Matt Mann produced a superb tackle to prevent another Selby try and, with both teams looking for more points, Rob Boddy narrowly failed, in the face of more strong Selby tackling, to get the home side on the scoresheet, while Dixon and Husband were later involved again in fantastic breaks.

Selby kicked the ball clear, chased it, Pock were unable to play the ball quickly enough and the visitors managed to score on the break.

Tiger Brash worked hard for Pocklington and their defence continued to be immense.

They had the lion’s share of possession and were considered by home supporters to have been unlucky to concede.
