PUB-goers are being invited to get plastered this weekend – literally.

A fundraising evening is being staged in the Golden Fleece in York tomorrow in aid of Red Nose Day, featuring a charity auction where the highest bidder will have the opportunity to have his or her face immortalised in plaster by sculptor Dean Kaye.

Event organiser Rosie Hunt, 41, from Barlby, is a team leader at Home Sense in York, and the store’s charity champion. “It is my job to come up with fundraising ideas and I wanted to do something big as Homesense and TK Maxx support Comic Relief,” she said. “We are asking people to do something funny for money in the most haunted pub in York.”

The pub landlady Stephanie Macklewain has provided the venue for free, said Rosie, while Guy Wallis, who also works at the Fleece, is offering four hours of his time as one of the auction prizes.

Other local businesses have also lent support with prizes ranging from Reel Cinema tickets to a pass to Castle Howard and beauty treatments.

Other highlights will be a charity casino, using fun money, from 6pm, provided by Miss Deal of Fun Casinos, and mind-boggling acts by magician Martin Allan.

There is no entrance fee, but people are asked to make a donation.
