PLANS to move a North Yorkshire town’s postal delivery office have been abandoned.

Royal Mail had looked at switching its Knaresborough facility to Harrogate because of “declining mail volumes” and a need to improve efficiency, but has dropped the proposals after saying they would have a “negative effect” on postal services in the area.

The delivery office will remain at Stockwell Road “for the foreseeable future”.

Royal Mail delivery director Steve McGuinness said: “After careful consideration of the key areas involved, a full assessment has been made and we have decided a merger of the two delivery offices will not progress at the moment.”
