A SENIOR York councillor has been included on her party’s shortlist of candidates to be a member of the European Parliament for Yorkshire and the Humber.
Acomb councillor Tracey Simpson-Laing, City of York Council’s cabinet member for health, housing and adult social services, will be among the potential Labour contenders for next year’s elections. A regional ballot of party members will be held to rank the candidates.
Sitting MEPs who are standing again will top each regional list, and newly selected candidates will go into a separate ballot to place them in order in the race for vacant seats.
Coun Simpson-Laing tweeted: “Huge honour to be included on Labour 2014 Euro list. Great team from across the Yorks & Humber region. Will be a privilege working with them.”
