ELDERLY residents at a North Yorkshire care home hope to sing their way into the Guinness World Records Book as the world’s oldest choir.
The 13-strong choir at St John’s House Care Home, in Kirk Hammerton, which was formed in 2012, is made up of 12 women and one man and they have an average age of 91 years. One member has just celebrated her 100th birthday.
Earlier this year, staff at the home encouraged the elderly choir to record favourite songs on to a CD.
They included Que Sera, Sera, Moon River and We’ll Gather Lilacs. After the recording session, Rosalie Pinder, 96, said: “You definitely feel better if you have a good sing.”
The CD was being launched today for the start of Good Care Week and the record attempt will take place today at the home between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
The choir will perform in concert, watched by Guinness adjudicators and supported by staff members.
