IN MY 40-something years of watching York City, a surfeit of supporters has rarely been an issue.
But when the Southend game kicked off on Saturday, the car park was still full of fans hoping to get into the Longhurst stand.
The turnstiles stopped turning and no one was on hand with any information. The stewards were defensive and truculent as people are when under pressure because they have not been adequately briefed.
The club has a public relations director, I believe. It would have been timely if she had showed up outside the turnstile with a megaphone and a plan. Or at least words of sympathy.
What we got was amateur night outside the turnstiles and customers deserve better than that.
