THE guns fired in celebration across the River Ouse as York marked the Queen’s 87th birthday.
The Museum Gardens are the only Royal Saluting Station in the north of England and along with 11 others in Britain was the scene for a 21-gun royal tribute yesterday.
The Lord-Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire, Susan Cunliffe-Lister, inspected the officers and soldiers of 4th Regiment Royal Artillery, who fired the salute, and the Heavy Cavalry and Cambrai Band which played in the gardens and during the procession from Duncombe Place to the saluting station.
She was accompanied by Brigadier Greville Bibby CBE, Commander of 15 (North East) Brigade and York Garrison.
