Age has proved no barrier for residents at a York care home, as they strut their stuff on the catwalk in aid of Parkinson’s UK.
Residents, their families, and staff at Mulberry Court care home took part in the two-day event in the hope of raising £200 for the charity.
Ten residents and eight staff took part in a shoe and slipper catwalk in the first of many foot-themed activities, which plays on the Parkinson’s Awareness Week slogan Put Yourself In Our Shoes.
Donna Batty, general manager at Mulberry Court, said: “We have a lot of clients with Parkinson’s. Our residents are very pleased we are doing this and they’re getting involved too, which is lovely.
“Even the residents in their wheelchairs are getting involved. It’s just a bit of fun and it helps raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease.”
The nursing home hosted a communal “step-a-thon” with 36 of the 60 residents and their families getting into the spirit of the day. Biscuits were baked in the shapes of shoes, and cakes for a bake sale were provided by First Step Children's Day Nursery, York.
The care home has also decided to support the charity for the rest of the year, and will be hosting a coffee morning to raise more funds.
