YORK’S noise patrol is as quiet as a mouse as it zeroes in on noisy neighbours.
The city council’s night-time and weekend team from the environmental protection unit is using an electric car, the first to be used permanently by the council.
The noise patrol is also using electronic tablets to keep in contact with the unit’s databases as it moves around the city.
Coun Dafydd Williams, cabinet member for crime and safer communities, said: “The electric car is perfect for dealing with noise complaints as it is nearly silent itself. With its 109-mile range it is just the thing for driving around York, and at a cost of only 2p per mile it is far cheaper than our previous diesel vans and petrol cars.”
He said the tablets should save time because patrol members can check data and receive calls while on the road.
