CITY of York men’s I finished ninth in the North Hockey League premier division after closing out their season with a 3-1 defeat at Leeds Gryphons.
Callum Craig caught the eye in midfield against hosts looking to avenge a defeat by York earlier in the campaign.
Jon Chappell superbly saved three penalty corners, but the hosts took the lead from a fourth. Jonny Jenkin turned in a penalty corner from Alex Cockram to level two minutes into the second half.
Leeds added two more goals to consign York’s Chris Wilson to defeat in his final game as first-team skipper. Wilson, who led the club into the premier division, will continue to play for City of York.
