A YOUNG cancer survivor from York is planning a gruelling fundraising trip hiking across some the biggest mountains in the United States.
Harry Baines, 22, of Fulford, will mark the third anniversary of undergoing successful radiotherapy for a rare form of cancer, by attempting to scale three Californian peaks, all above 14,000 feet, in only three days.
Harry said: “I’m open quite a strict training regime at the moment. I’m in the gym most days and doing three hours of treadmill. Hiking is not one of my strengths.
“The trek will include White Mountain, Mount Langley and, of course, Mount Whitney, the tallest peak in the United States excluding Alaska. The physical training is hard, but the mental training will be even harder when you bear in mind the tallest peak in the UK is Ben Nevis at 4,409 feet.”
Setting out in two months time, Harry is now looking for sponsors to help him reach his target of £5,000 for Cancer Research UK.
