THE world’s largest ear is coming to schools to help prevent youngsters “downloading deafness” on MP3 players.
Deafness Research UK’s Bionic Ear show will visit St Robert’s Catholic Primary School, in Harrogate, and Ripon Cathedral School on Tuesday.
Charity chief executive Vivienne Michael said: “The revolution in MP3 technology has given us music on the move, but at dangerously high volumes. The fear is we’re all downloading deafness and risking permanent damage and tinnitus.”
The Bionic Ear show includes a 22ft model explaining how the ear works and what can go wrong with it and what if anything can be done to put it right once it’s damaged. There will also be group activities to underline the message.
